Essential Question: What were the key features of the Egyptian society, and what innovations were developed?

Key Features/Innovations:
Hieroglyphics-
Hieroglyphics as an Egyptian writing that uses different actions, sounds, objects, and ideas. With this type of writing, people use letters, and numbers as well to symbolize different ideas, and to express concerns with one another. Many people taught this type of writing to children that are beginners.
Medical Technology-
Medical Technology is the study of improving people's inventions, and creating them into medicine for people that need it. People created certain machines to help someone with pain, or if they are sick. Many people didn't survive just of medicines, so doctors had do put technology into a medical advancement. Also, they created a machine for surgery that helped people with pain, and it told them what they had, so they could cure it.
Some inventions created by the ancient Egyptians:
The Egyptians bread had so much grit and sand in it, the Egyptians had a lot of problems with their teeth. They invented the toothbrush and toothpaste in an effort to take care of their teeth. They used a wide variety of ingredients to make their toothpaste including ashes, eggshells, and even ground up ox hooves. Also, all Egyptians wore makeup, even the men. They made a dark eye makeup called kohl from soot and other minerals. The makeup was a fashion statement, but it also had the side affect of protecting their skin from the hot desert sun. Furthermore, The Egyptians learned how to make durable sheets of parchment from the papyrus plant. It was used for important documents and religious texts.
Daily life of an ancient Egyptian:
The people of ancient Egypt highly valued family life. They treasured children and regarded them as a great blessing. In the lower class families, the mother raised the children. The wealthy and nobility, had slaves and servants that helped take care of the children by attending to their daily needs. If a couple had no children, they would pray to the gods and goddesses for help. They would also place letters at the tombs of dead relatives asking them to use their influence with the gods. Also, children were expected to look after their elderly parents. Upon their parents death, the sons inherited the land, while daughters inherited the household goods such as furniture and jewelry. If there were no sons in the family, there was nothing preventing the daughters from inheriting the land. Additionally, although women were expected to raise the children and take care of the household duties, there were some jobs available to them. Women ran farms and businesses in the absence of their husbands or sons. Women were employed in courts and temples as acrobats, dancers, singers and musicians. Wealthy families hired maids or nannies to help with household chores, raising of the children, and other responsibilities. Noblewomen could become a priestess. Women also worked as professional mourners and perfume makers. To add on, cooking was done in clay ovens as well as over open fires. Wood was used for fuel, even though it was scarce. Food was baked, boiled, stewed, fried, grilled, or roasted. Also, the ancient Egyptians main resource of transportation was the Nile River. They Nile river every day had tons of boats and ships traveling across it. Also, in trading, the Nile supported transportation efficiently to the people in ancient Egypt. Furthermore, the people of ancient Egypt built mud brick homes in villages and in the country. They grew some of their own food and traded in the villages for the food and goods they could not produce. Also, the ancient Egyptians ate fruit, vegetables, bread, and beer. Most Egyptians were vegetarians, and mostly consumed a diet of fruit and vegetables. Next, there were many jobs for people to do including bakers, scribes, priests, noblemen, farmers, and many others. Also, social classes made up a big part in ancient Egypt. Social classes depended on how much power you had, and the energy you brought to the society. Social classes also gave you a specific job to help out the community, and a place to be put in as tribute.

To be an Egyptian scribe meant you had the knowledge of reading and writing, and being able to read and write poems or story's. Scribes were usually men in ancient Egypt. Although experts believe that most scribes were men, there is some evidence historians found that there was some female doctors. These women doctors would have been trained as scribes so that they could read reports, and medical texts. Scribes usually wrote on papyrus with reed brushes dipped in ink. The ancient Egyptians made ink by grinding brightly colored minerals into powder, then mixing the powder with liquid so that it was easier to apply. They could also make different colors with it, by using different kinds of pigments. Also, being a scribe was difficult because you had to have about twelve years or more of training and learning. Being a scribe was an extremely difficult job because in total, there were hundreds of different hieroglyphs to remember.

The ancient Egyptians made an advancement in medical technology. They made pills which carried vitamins and minerals to the Egyptians. Also they learned about balanced diets, and moderation. These advancements brought a lot more nutrition to the ancient Egyptians. Also, their medical advancements created surgery. There were many machines which treated people and their disabilities. The Egyptians created these wonderful machines to help people with pain. Also, they created tools made out of bronze and copper to treat people in surgery. Additionally, the ancient Egyptians created dentistry. Dentistry helped people with teeth and gum problems. These medical advancements also helped people with infections they could of had. also, they created tools to help them with dentistry. Finally, they also created medicines to help people with sickness's, and it spreading to other ancient Egyptians. Doctors experimented on people new inventions of medical treatments.

The ancient Egyptian people were grouped in a hierarchical system with the Pharaoh at the top and farmers and slaves at the bottom. The groups of people nearest the top of society were the richest and most powerful. These were formed into social classes. There was a high, middle, and low social classes. Also, people were put into social classes depending on how much power they had. This helped keep the society organized because everyone had a specific job in their class into helping the society.
Question: If you could be anyone in ancient Egypt, who would you choose to be?
Answer:
I would choose to be Thutmose lll. I would choose Thutmose lll because he was a great warrior king in ancient Egypt, and ruled the people into success. Also he was regarded as the greatest of the rulers of ancient Egypt. Thutmose III was a skilled warrior who brought the Egyptian empire to the zenith of its power by conquering all of Syria, crossing the Euphrates to defeat the mitannians , and penetrating south along the Nile River to Napata in the Sudan. He also built a great number of temples and monuments to commemorate his deeds. He ruled the people in ancient Egypt as a great leader of his society. From this he got great power and wealth for himself and his family. Thutmose lll was normally in a military position. Some advantages is that he got very skilled in the military part of his training. He trained to be a very strong warrior, and a leader in war. On the other hand, his aunt took power over him for about twenty two years which left Thutmose lll with no power. HIs social position was also very stressful. When he had the power for almost about fifty five years, he had to make the rules, and codes for people to follow which could of developed conflict.

With the Nile River playing a major role in the lives of the Egyptians, building ships was a big part of their technology. They originally built small boats from papyrus reeds, but later began to build large ships from cedar wood imported from Lebanon. The significance of the shipbuilding is that these ships could be used for a great transportation source, and could be used for holding supply's. It had a very lasting impact on the world because even now we are using the same sort of boats to do the same duty's as the ancient Egyptians.

This technological advancement that the ancient Egyptians made is called "buildings". The ancient Egyptians made these buildings using many tools from bronze and copper. They also used moist mud if the flooding season was around. These buildings were significant to the Egyptian hero's because a lot of these powerful leaders were kept in the buildings that were very wealthy and nice. Also, the buildings expressed culture, and the beliefs that the ancient Egyptian people had for there Gods and beliefs.

Another technological advancement that the ancient Egyptians made was a process called mummification. A mummy is a body of a person or animal that is being preserved after death. Mummification is the process of putting someone in a coffin and wrapping them up. This was a very important process to the Egyptian people because they believed in an afterlife. An afterlife is the life you will have after you have died and been preserved. They believed that you had another life after you died. This was very significant because it was a part of their culture, and respectfulness of death that they had. Also, the mummification kept the memory of the dead in their spirits thought the ancient Egyptians.

One of the many technological advancement that the ancient Egyptians created was tool making. Tool making consisted of many people working together with different kinds of supply's to try to make tools. They made the tools out of bronze, metal, limestone, and other stones. The making of tools was very significant because it brought much use to the people in Ancient Egypt. For example, at war, people used these tools to defeat people easier and more efficient. Also, many jobs like farming used these tools to make it easier, to to make their jobs have more accessibility to them.

Lastly, a technological advancement that the ancient Egyptians created is called, "papyrus". Papyrus is made from a plant used to make paper. It is also used for blank ink to be written on it, and symbols and culture to be on it and expressed. Papyrus is significant because it was used to make footwear as well, and paper. Paper was important because the ancient Egyptians didn't have to take a bunch of materials and time to carve something into a wall, just to say something. So, papyrus provided and easy way of writing to the ancient Egyptians.
